Pappy's retirement ceremony was Saturday in Pittsburgh. It was a gorgeous sunny day and we were able to take a few pictures before we headed to the base. The first thing we did when we arrived, was take the boys to Pappy's plane. We were able to let the boys climb in and sit in the seats.
They were super excited to sit in the pilot's seat and look at all the buttons. There were five planes out Saturday. All were C-130s. As soon as we got off the first one, Lincoln started running towards the other ones screaming, "open the other ones!" He loved the planes! The party was starting soon, so we headed over to the pavilion for the party.
It was conveniently located next to a baseball field, a tennis court, and a volleyball court. The boys ran around the tennis court until Lincoln did a nose dive and skinned his lip and nose up. We tried our best to keep him from running, but that didn't go over well!
This was the only thing that slowed him down! He loved the burgers!!
Saturday night gave us such a true picture of these boys. They knew NO one at the party except family. So many people had heard about the boys from Pappy and wanted to say hello. Ethan shut down and would not say a word. Lincoln was the life of the party. He was running around smiling. He would go to total strangers. Ethan stayed super close to his favorite person, Memaw!!
After three tries at having Pappy's retirement ceremony, he finally was able to say good-bye to the fellas at the base Saturday night. The boys had a blast running around, eating good food, and staying up late! We went to a hotel near the base with the hopes of getting the boys a little extra sleep. My kids will not sleep in the car. It's weird. About 4:45 Sunday morning, Lincoln woke up coughing and no one could sleep. So, we headed back to Memaw's and actually woke her up! She was not expecting us so early! On the drive to her house, Ethan said, "Mommy, do you know what my favorite part was?...It was the planes!"
